Tips for Hosting an Oscar Party

Updated: Sep 15, 2020

At Twist Events we never need a reason to throw a party, but Oscar Night, the epitome of award shows, is one of the best opportunities to go all out. So roll out the red carpet for your besties with these fabulous Oscar party ideas.

Invitations

Start your event off right with a marvellous invite. You can design your own or head over to Evite or Paperless Post and they have several customizable options. Invite your guests to dress as their favourite nominee … Brad or Renée, come as Joaquin’s Joker or put on some fabulous glasses and you are Elton John singing "Love me Again" from Rocketman. Or make it a casual night for you and your friends with sweats and jeans

Red Carpet Decor

Small things can go a long way in terms of setting the vibe for the night. Make your guests feel like Hollywood royalty by rolling out an actual red carpet. You can pick up a red floor runner at your local party store for under $20. Personalize gold stars with your guests’ names and voila you have your very own Walk of Fame!

Go all out on Gold

Think Gold Everything. From gold balloons to gold vases with beautiful white flowers, gold plates, napkins, serving trays, straws, mini gold votives. Add in some hanging gold stars, mini gold Oscar statues, gold glitter and your home is fit for King Midas.

Movie Magic Decor

Print out pictures of Best Movie nominees and put in gold frames to add a little movie magic or pick up Hollywood Movie Clapboards and fill out one for each best movie nominee. Make foamcore cutout heads of your favourite stars for your guests to take pictures with. You can't throw an Oscar Party without ballots for your guests to choose the winners.  You can make your own or find a ready-to-print version online.

Champagne is a Must

Create your own Bubbly bar with Piper-Heidsieck, the official champagne of the Oscars. Or for something a little easier on the pocket book pick up the 200ml Henkell Trocken Piccolo and serve with a gold straw to make your guests feel like they are the star of the night.

Go BIG on Snacks

Fancy food is always an award winner, but don’t feel like you have to cook to impress the Top Chef Canada judges. What you really need is to treat your guests to an endless stream of delicious food and snacks to get them through the red carpet pre-show and then the three hour award show.

Finger foods like grilled shrimp with spicy chipotle dip, a gourmet cheese platter with artisan crackers, figs and olives, an oooey gooey cheese fondue with crusty bread, a charcuterie tray with the finest Sopressata, Prosciutto di Parma, Pâté and Cappicollo. Or keep it super simple and order in some delicious butter chicken and naan bread, Mexican tacos, loads of yummy Thai spring rolls or burgers and fries from your favourite local watering hole.

In addition to hearty food offerings you need to have lots and lots of salty and sweet snacks. Popcorn is an absolute must and with so many great serving containers available you can set out individual servings of butter popcorn or salted caramel in gold themed paper boxes. Wow your guests with gold glitter donuts, cupcakes with white icing and gold stars, chocolate brownies with gold sprinkles. Put out bowls of gold wrapped Ferrero Rocher chocolates, champagne coloured gummy bears, gold M&Ms or head to your local bulk food store and pick up whatever gold themed treats you can find.

Now sit back and enjoy the show!!
